Embracing the Uncomfortable: What God Is Teaching Me in This Season

This summer sent me into a whirlwind. Between the big move into the apartment I thought would be a long-term home, accepting a new teaching position, facing legal issues, and moving into another apartment that feels nothing like home, God has placed me in some of the most uncomfortable situations and environments. I realized that God is trying to communicate something to me—something that requires humility and a receptive heart. I'm still unsure what God is doing in this season of my life, but I've decided to trust Him like never before and embrace the uncomfortability I'm experiencing.

Sometimes God places us in uncomfortable situations for a reason. I think I'm beginning to understand why He's doing so in my life.

I've grown too comfortable with the good occurring in my life. I've grown too complacent in certain environments. I believe God looked at my life and said, Let me shake things up in her life. And He did just that.

From late March until now, July 13th, I've been uncertain of what God was doing. He interrupted the plans I thought I had for myself. I decided not to question Him, even when I didn't understand. I figured He needed to slow me down, and He did. He needed to bring me back to Him somehow. He stirred up areas of my life I never imagined I would have to face, but through it all, I've realized I'm not alone in what I face.

God is married to the backslider, and here I am—probably in the top five. I call myself a praying person every night, yet I rarely open my Bible. I say I put my faith in Christ, yet I still allow uncertainty and anxiety to lead me through my days.

In December 2025, God allowed someone from my past to reenter my life. I prayed over that relationship from December until March, when it ended in catastrophe. In May, I moved to leave that chapter behind. I accepted a new teaching position and convinced myself I was moving forward.

But I don't believe God was finished with me.

Instead, I believe He was calling me back to Him.

Not to punish me, but to refine me.

Over the last few months, I've realized that what I need most isn't control over my circumstances—it's discernment. I need to grow in my ability to recognize God's voice and trust His direction instead of relying on my own understanding.

Last night, I picked up my Bible and began reading Hebrews. More than anything, those chapters reminded me that because of Jesus' sacrifice, I am saved. I am not forgotten. I am not abandoned.

That truth convicted me.

No matter how uncomfortable this season becomes, Jesus remains with me. Hebrews reminded me that the Son endured suffering and testing, and because He did, He can help those who are being tested. That includes me.

I still have five months left in this year. Five more months to navigate this uncomfortable season. I don't know what God has planned or what lessons are still ahead of me, but I know this much: this season isn't happening without purpose.

More importantly, it isn't happening without His presence.

I may not understand everything God is doing, but I'm learning that I don't have to understand Him to trust Him. If this season is teaching me anything, it's that discomfort isn't always a sign that God has left me. Sometimes it's evidence that He's drawing me closer.

And this time, I don't want to miss what He's trying to teach me.
